UNJYU & GISUKE

GISUKE(Shimada school)
Who was GUSUKE?
The story goes back to Muromachi Period, Yoshimoto Imagawa lost to Nobunaga Oda in the Battle of Okehazama.
His family has served as a guardian of Suruga Province(Modern Shizuoka Prefecture).
Yoshimoto's grandfather was Yoshitada Imagawa.
YOSHITADA(義忠) invited GISUKE from Shimada school in Suruga province to make a sword at him. So he uses the word "GI(義)" in his name.
Perhaps he changed the name to help(助=means help) Yoshitada.
UNJYU
He is a sword smith who made swords in Bizen Province(Modern Okayama Prefecture) during the Northern and Southern Dynasties(14 century).
The Sword smith group which is called UN(雲=When this Chinese character is pronounced in Japanese, it becomes "un".) school. A legend remains in this UN.
The first UN was ordered by 96th Emperor Go-Daigo to make a sword, but he was having trouble making a good one. So he had a very good dream when he fell asleep after praying to God and Buddha.
The next day he was looking at the clouds and inspired by the dream he had yesterday to come up with the best HAMON.
When I showed the sword to the emperor, he was praised as "a sword like a cloud", and since then he has started to use the word "cloud(雲=UN)" in his name.
His Japanese sword is Yamashiro-style(Modern Kyoto Prefecture), similar to the style of famous sword smiths called RAI school and He makes Japanese swords using the styles of various regions, so never gets tired of seeing his swords
