About Koyama Munetsugu

He is a sword smith who was active at the end of the Edo period.
It is one of the most popular Japanese swords even today.
He was born in Mutsu Probvince(Modern Fukushima Prefecture). He studied swords under Kato Tsunahide with Chounsai Tsunatoshi*.＊Chounsai Tsunatoshi also later became a prominent sword smith.
He served the daimyo Matsudaira Sadanobu and began to make swords.
Due to the change of country in Matsudaira, he moved to Ise Province(Modern Mie Prefecture).
Looking at his sword, it is known that he had been making Japanese swords in Edo since 1831.

Due to his success so far, he was given the position of assistant administrative officer.(Bizen nosuke*)
＊Bizen nosuke means the second highest position among bureaucrats dispatched from the central government to local governments.

POINT

He was a swordsmith who made the best Bizen-den swords in Shinshintou era.
Therefore, JIGANE* is also a detailed work with a beautiful Straight Hamon(Suguha 直刃).
＊JIGANE is dark part of swords(The part excluding HAMON.).
